“That’s the business pivot that paid off,” explains Matt Ginella in the latest episode of our Gamble Sands documentary, detailing the decision to add golf to the family’s apple and cherry operations. Choosing David McLay Kidd as the architect of this fledgling resort in rural Washington state might have been a surprising decision, but that paid off as well with Best New Course honors in 2014. “We turned David loose,” Cass Gebbers remembers. “He just blended into the community — there was nothing pretentious about him.” And DMK brought a vision to build golf on this expansive stretch of sand that laid across the land. And, most importantly, he brought a vision of fun — one that has stood the test of time more than 10 years later as Gamble Sands has grown into one of the premier destination golf resorts in America.
