How Scarecrow’s name and image came to life

Now in its first full season, Scarecrow at Gamble Sands Resort has already made a name for itself — not just for the golf, but for the name, the logo and the character behind it all.

And one question keeps coming up from guests:

Why Scarecrow?

Like so much at Gamble Sands, the answer starts with the land.

Set among wide-open fields, working orchards, dramatic terrain and panoramic views of the Columbia River, Scarecrow needed a name that felt like it belonged here. Not something forced. Not something borrowed from somewhere else. Something rooted in this place.

The idea was to create a friendly-yet-mysterious presence watching over the course — a figure that felt almost human. Someone you might imagine standing quietly in the fairway at sunrise, disappearing into the apple trees by the time you looked again.

Our Scarecrow keeps watch over the fields and orchards. He warns away predators, protects the land and welcomes golfers into a bold new world shaped across a twisted saddle of terrain.

The Gebbers family wanted the character to feel connected to both the agricultural history of the property and the adventurous spirit of the golf course itself. To bring that idea to life, the team turned to Clay Gebbers, whose creativity and fingerprints can be found across Gamble Sands — from the original bunny logo to The Barn and beyond.

Every detail of our Scarecrow was chosen carefully, giving Gamble Sands’ newest course a symbol that feels timeless, local and unmistakably its own.

Today, Scarecrow flies the flag for the newest course from the creative minds of DMK Design — a course built on big views, bold golf and a character that feels like he has been watching over this land all along.
